Dorothea Spencer
Dorothea “Dotty” Spencer, 70, of Old Orchard Beach, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, (2007) at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Somersworth, N.H. on Feb. 10, 1937, the fourth of seven children born to Thomas L. and Rhea E. (Aubin) Blaney, and attended Old Orchard Beach Schools.
Dorothea worked many jobs around Old Orchard, most recently with the Loranger Middle School as an office secretary for many years until her illness. Previously, she worked as a produce clerk with the local Shaw’s Supermarket, Saco.
Dorothea was a member of St. Margaret’s Church in Old Orchard Beach as well as the Red Hat Society and a former member of the Old Orchard Historical Society, parks and rec., VFW Auxiliary, and the Fire Department Auxiliary. She also volunteered with the YMCA’s Old Orchard Beach after school program. Dotty loved to be around friends and family, and loved to make them laugh. Overall, Dotty was a devoted mother, grandmother, and wife.
Dorothea is predeceased by her husband, Roland Spencer (1999), her son Alan (1993), one brother and one sister.
She is survived by three sons Mark L Haskell and wife Catherine of Moultonborough, N.H., David W. Haskell of Austin, Texas, Brian J. Haskell of Old Orchard Beach; three step-daughters Barbara Spencer of Starkville, Mich., Vicki Worthing of Brunswick and Patti Spencer Yost of Freeport; four brothers Ronald J. Blaney of St. George, Utah, Thomas L. Blaney and wife Theresa of Southington, Conn. Richard P. Blaney and long-time friend Judy Vigeau of Dayton, Daniel E. Blaney and wife Gail of Old Orchard Beach; four grandsons Curtis Haskell and wife Chrissey of New Castle, N.H., Ian Haskell and wife Catherine Brady-Haskell (US Navy) in Guam, Nicholas Haskell (US Navy) in Japan, Jeffery Haskell of Moultonborough, N.H. and many nieces and nephews.
