Hattie [Doty] Haskell 1857-1938
...Obituary
Hattie (Doty) Haskell Died February 10, 1938
Hattie Doty Haskell was born in Raisin township, a mile west of Holloway, on February 10, 1857, the oldest daughter of William E. and Caroline Raymond Doty, who had come to Michigan from New York with their parents in early childhood.
She attended school in Tecumseh and graduated from Raisin Valley Seminary. At the age of 20 she was married to George T. Haskell of Olivet, where they lived several years. There two daughters were born, both of whom died in childhood.
For 40 years, they made their home at Ludington. There four children were born, three of whom survive, two daughters. Mrs. William Skentebury (sic) of Clinton, and Mrs. Mildred Long of Battle Creek; and a son Howard Haskell of Kalamazoo, his twin brother Clifford having died as a boy. She left eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She is also survived by two sisters of Madison, Wis., Mrs. Carrie Whitmarsh and Mrs. George C. Humphrey, and a brother Stanley E. Doty of Holloway.
She and her husband were fortunate in spending more than 50 years together. He died nine years ago and since that time she had lived with her children.
Mrs. Haskell died Friday noon, August 19, after six weeks illness. Services were held Sunday afternoon with burial at Ludington Monday.
The obit is dated August 19, 1938 and the article appeared in an Adrian, Michigan newspaper which is pasted in an old scrapbook.
