THOMAS HEATHER/EATHER arrived in Australia on the Second Fleet to Sydney Cove in 1790 on the "Neptune".  ELIZABETH LEE arrived August 1791 on "Mary Ann" and married Thomas Heather. The Eathers and their descendants pioneered land around Windsor west of Sydney, at Bulga near Singleton, around the Namoi and Richmond Rivers then some moved north to Wide Bay in Queensland.

Surnames include Heather, Onus, Eaton, Ezzy, McAlpin, Cornwell, & Waldock.

John Eaton became Mayor of Maryborough during 1861-1862 in Queensland. He was known as the Squire of "Teebar", his Brooweena property. His townhouse was "Rosehill".

In 1867, there was a major flood near Windsor in NSW. Three sons of Charles Eather and his wife Ann Cain: Thomas, William and George, with their respective wives and children, lived on adjoining farms at Cornwallis. Tom's eldest child, sixteen year-old Charles Frederick, managed to reach a tree. Tom's wife Frances and their other five children, and Bill's wife Catherine and their five children all perished.  Tom & Bill survived.

Ray Haskell descends from  Ann Elizabeth Eather and Susan links via two marriages.

Eather genealogy research by numerous family members and especially John St. Pierre over many years has resulted in the most comprehensive Family History for the Eathers in Australia.  Check individual notes as this is where the human interest stories may be found.

Accuracy is strived for but not always possible due to source errors, gaps in records or differences in interpretation of old handwriting styles. More details and/or corrections are very welcome.

Original records should always be checked personally.
