General Notes:
Birth NSW Rec V1840791 133 - Microfiche & CD give year (1840) only, name James R A KEARNS - Father Moses - Mother Dorothy. Religion RC Duplicated as Alcium KEARNS - NSW REC V184101 61 to Moses & Dorothy - Duplication established by Janet NOACK - apparently this was a common occurrence between different levels of official recording.
Baptismal Certificate - date of baptism 8 March 1840 - Birth Date of 11th Feb 1840 gives name as James Rayment Alcium KEARNS - Father Moses KEARNSand Mother Dorothy CARTHY. Photocopy of Baptismal Register repeats above data. Note James Rayment is written on one level, Alcium on lower level in the same column. ( Alcium) is then printed in brackets underneath the original Alcium. It is not difficult to visualize birth records for James RA was duplicated as Alcium on seeing this. Entered James Raymond Alfred CAIRNS as Father on Birth Record of Ann CAIRNS (RIN 14) - Qld - 1873/002464
Marriage - Original Birth Record of eldest child Sarah DAVIS CAIRNS sighted at Forbes NSW Court House on 28th April 2004 by Kevin & Regina O'SHAUGHNESSY. Birth Registration is for Sarah DAVIS. The D on the NSW BDMs web site stands for DAVIS. There were 2 dashes only in the Marriage column. James CAIRNS entered as Father and also registered the birth. This confirms that this birth was illegitimate, and that James CAIRNS and Mary Ann DAVIS were robably never married - on later births they claimed marriage dates preceding Sarah's birth.
